Artbae LLC presents: Head Above the Water: Art & Awareness for Water & Environmental Justice

Date: September 20, 2024 | 6pm-10pm

Location: Water Park at National Landing, 1601 Crystal Dr, Arlington, VA 22202

About the Event:

In light of National Preparedness Month this upcoming September, Artbae LLC will be launching Head Above the Water: Art & Awareness for Water & Environmental Justice -  an interactive and educational art and music festival, sponsored by DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities and the Prince George’s Arts and Humanities Council, that aims to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation, flood risk mitigation, and environmental justice.

The event will take place on Friday, September 20th from 6-10pm at the all new Water Park at National Landing located in Crystal City (see attached photos).

We will be utilizing the entire park and venue to create a transformative arts experience that is entertaining, educational, and accessible to all DMV residents.

The showcase itself will be a FREE event and open to ALL, and would include various forms of art including painting, sculptures, photographs, and installations that explore the power and beauty of water and its role in our lives.

The event will culminate with a music performance by saxophonist Eddie K Jr (who will be debuting his anticipated new instrumental album ‘Back to Serenity’).

SHOWCASE THEME:
We welcome submissions of artwork in all media and subject matters. However, we particularly encourage pieces that explore themes of water, nature, environmentalism, and the color blue, whether in a symbolic or overt way. These concepts can be illustrated through visual art, live art, body painting, fashion and mixed media art. Artwork that aligns with these themes will receive priority consideration as we aim to create a meaningful experience for our audience.

Those interested in being an installation artist using recyclable water bottles collected from a preliminary river clean-up initiative will receive a stipend of up to $150.00 along with the opportunity to gain recognition during the event. Additional incentives include exclusive artist talks on our featured platforms and more.*

*If interested in this opportunity, please indicate so in the submission form (details below).
